Abstract

In recent decades our knowledge of the surfaces of the planetary bodies in the Solar System has increased
dramatically. Geological, time-stratigraphic and geochronologic units have been defined and redefined. The terminology
of planetary science is in many respect resembles terrestrial terminology but there may be differences in the use of
technical terms. In this article a short description is presented of the geology and geochronology of Mercury, Venus, the
Moon, Mars and Callisto and an attempt is made to create a basis for a Hungarian terminology of the described fields.
