Proposal for a tectonic database
Abstract
Empirical geological research could become more exact if the mappable tectonic data and tectonic features displayed on maps and sections were incorporated into a uniform database, following a uniform system of criteria. A prerequisite
for this is that the tectonic features possess a unique identifier. The proposal of this present paper suggests that a unique identifier can be created from the coordinates (in the EOV Hungarian Grid) of the primary observation point of a fault. A
possible database structure is presented, along with logical and physical models and the functioning of the system (using examples from the Mecsek Mts).
