Abstract

The Palaeontological-Stratigraphical Section of the Hungarian Geological Society was founded in 1963, and thus is one of the oldest thematic sections of the Society. In the early years the main activities involved various scientific sessions, larger thematic meetings and field trips. From the 80's and 90's organisation of the scientific sessions became more and more difficult; consequently, over the past 16 years the annual meetings (Hungarian Palaeontological Meetings) have become the most popular and typical programs. On the basis of the undiminished success of these annual meetings, it is expected that these will continue to be the predominant activity of the Palaeontological-Stratigraphical Section.
