Do you consider it important that the results of your last project are known to the Hungarian colleagues or others in the Carpathian Basin? Is there a topic, problem, exceptional outcrop, or formation that is worth presenting from multiple angles? Publications can also be organized around scientific events or anniversaries. The best forum for these is a special issue in the Bulletin of the Hungarian Geological Society, the Földtani Közlöny.

Depending on the topic, the studies can be prepared in Hungarian or, for a wider audience, in English. It can change within a volume. Thematic volumes make it easier for both readers and authors to find information on specific topics. During the review process, some topics may appear that increase synergy and, overall, bring greater visibility and citations to the authors and the journal. Professional relationships are built, information is disseminated to a wider audience.

The editorial board welcomes proposals for new special issues by January 15th of each year. These can focus on topics or regional problems that fit the profile of the Journal, with a multi-disciplinary approach (https://ojs3.mtak.hu/index.php/foldtanikozlony/about), which may be of interest to a wider professional audience. These are expected to be published in the second half of the year or the first half of the following year. The editorial board will decide on the accepted proposals, the order of the volumes, and the pace of implementation by February 15.

The proposal is submitted by the guest editor in the form of an e-mail sent to the editor-in-chief and the relevant section editor (see attached form). Our contact details: https://ojs3.mtak.hu/index.php/foldtanikozlony/about/editorialTeam . We kindly ask for the following: 

• short title.
• Contact information, workplace, email address of guest editor(s). The ideal guest editor is an expert on the topic, but has experience in more than just a narrow field. He/she is a good organizer and communicator, and is disciplined regarding deadlines.
• The objective and content summary of the collection of articles should be brief, half a page or maximum one page, which highlights the importance of the topic (e.g. publishing the results of a closing project), highlights its expected impact, or describes its relevance (e.g. what anniversary it is related to).
• In addition, it is necessary to submit the working titles of at least 5, ideally 6–7 (10–12 in the case of a double volume) of manuscripts. At least indicating the corresponding authors, after the guest editor has consulted with them. A 2-3-line content summary, stating the main results, is useful. Please indicate when the authors will submit the article. Unfortunately, there will always be those who cannot finish in time. Plan as many articles as possible so that this does not jeopardize the publication deadline of the volume. Please indicate whether a given article will be in Hungarian or English.
• Please list at least 5–10 potential reviewers who are familiar with the topic, including foreign reviewers in the case of English-language works.
• The submission deadline and/or publication date planned by the guest editor.

 

Manuscripts are subject to the provisions on the FK's website and go through the usual review process. The processing time for the volumes from the receipt of the last article (submission deadline) to the publication is 9 months. There are many reasons for this, e.g. the invitation to the reviewers may take longer, it is possible that 2 rounds of review are necessary, a language check, etc. Authors are requested to read the author's guide and to take into account both content and formal requirements when preparing the manuscript (https://ojs3.mtak.hu/index.php/foldtanikozlony/information/authors).

The tasks of the guest editor are to invite the authors, inform them in advance and maintain contact with them (e.g. about the deadlines). They actively participate in the selection of reviewers and in the entire review process by supporting the work of the section-editor and editor-in-chief. If the guest editor is involved in a specific paper he/she does not participate in the review process, it is entirely up to the section-editor and editor-in-chief.

The submission deadline for each volume and the timing of the work processes will be discussed with the guest editor. Afterward we strongly request to keep deadlines. Otherwise, not only the given volume will be delayed, but possibly other volumes as well, which may negatively affect the regular publication of the journal.

We will publish the title, article submission deadline and expected publication date of the planned and already prepared special volumes on the journals website so that other authors or those who plan other thematic volumes can take this into account.

In addition to the special volumes, at least one volume is published yearly from the continuously arriving manuscripts intended for non-thematic volumes. These are processed in a parallel way, and when they are accepted, they can be published online with the status “Online first” before being included in a volume. Until finalization, precise bibliographic data is missing, but it becomes immediately citeable thanks to the online availability. When a volume of articles is collected, we will insert them between the special issues.
