Abstract

Today's complex system of fire protection is made up of tangible, visible and invisible system elements. While the methodology of firefighter intervention and fire investigation can be clearly identified and interpreted, the methods of the fire prevention discipline often use abstract solutions that must address a future predicted fire situation to the extent that the expected level of safety is met. In their research, the authors have investigated how the invisible dimension of fire prevention: risk assessment, data generation, the evolution of future anticipated processes, etc., have an impact on the development of a fire safety situation in a building. The researchers highlight how the abstract, often invisible, process of prevention can be visualised and validated in order to be assessed in a way that is commensurate with the expected level of safety.
