The challenges of designing transport packaging, especially for dangerous goods

Keywords: packaging, transport packaging, dangerous goods packaging

Abstract

In order to design appropriate packaging, it is necessary to know the magnitude and probability of the physical stresses that may occur in each transport relationship that affect the saleability of the packaged product or even contribute to its destruction. If we were to strive for perfect safety, we would have to plan for “overpackaging”, which would be unreasonable and uneconomical on the one hand, and would cause meaningless environmental impacts on the other. The aim of this short presentation is to deliver a novel method for modeling the decision-making situation of transport packaging solutions. The aim of the method is not to make a holistic or comprehensive (cost-based) comparison, but to examine factors that influence the decision-making process and go beyond traditional two-valued logic.
