Psychological first aid in the Zala Special Ambulance Association
Case Study
Abstract
The Zala Special Ambulance Association is a rescue team of volunteers. As part of their long-standing activities, they have had a mental health team since 2016, which provides psychological first aid. The present study aims to present this activity and, after describing its operating principles and methods, it uses four cases to illustrate its work in alleviating the suffering of people who have experienced acute stress, emotional distress or tragedy and in preventing post-traumatic stress. Although no empirical, quantitative study has been conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the work, the case studies seem to confirm the effectiveness and importance of the interventions.
