Abstract

New textiles on the market require more and more complex requirements from different point of view and the issue of the fire safety is not an exception. Safety related questions become increasingly more obvious in the previous years, so the need for the fire retardant substances increases as well. Our thesis was written about the textiles as potential source of danger. After the presentation of the domestic and international regulation I picked up the best standards. According to these regulations we examined my specimens between laboratory circumstances. Next to the different flame spread we propose to measure the oxygen index measures as well, which present the real and hidden characteristics of the textiles. Our main purpose, based on the received results to classify the substances according to the oxygen index. The aim of our work is to evaluate, based on the test results, whether the currently mandatory classifications are sufficient to provide the safe flammability of textiles, and whether materials can be classified according to the introduction of the oxygen index.
