developement of technical equipment for mobile tank firefighting

Abstract

Safe storage of various flammable materials, among them the fuels, means a day-by-day challenge in numerous sectors of the industry; and despite the efforts made by the operators, fires do occur during this activity. While managing extraordinary events happened to storage tanks one of the most commonly used materials is the fire fighting foam, in which application besides the built-in protection systems, usually mobile equipment of the responders is also given an important role. Based on the features of the given sector and on the size and characteristics of the incident, deployment of different types of technical equipment groups might be needed for successful fire fighting. In his article the author gives us a review on the most important equipment groups applied during tank fire fighting. He summarizes the characteristics of the equipment applied in different facilities, and mostly defining the effectiveness of the response. By comparing the dissimilar solutions, he points at the possibilities of technical development.
