The Role of Families in Congregational Development
Abstract
Our congregations consist not only of individuals but also of families. They are the cornerstones of our communities. They are both a target group and co-workers in congregational development. But how do we view them? How does Scripture or the Church see families? Are we even capable of recognizing the reality and the various family structures people live in today? This study examines the special role of the family in building congregational community through biblical foundations, sociological data, and an exploration of pastoral practice. The question we eventually reach may lead even further: can our congregational communities themselves become families, so that every seeker may find both a home and a family member there?
