The Dualities of theology in a Complementarity Realist Perspective

Abstract
In this paper I strive to summarize the essence of my doctoral thesis. In it, I demonstrate how the three methodological pillars of theology and natural science – critical realism, Lindbeck’s linguistic-cultural approach and Polkinghorne’s bottom-up thinking – in the five-step parallel of development of dogma history and modern physics history. The paradoxes are not resolved in either area, but form a unity in the manner of complementarity introduced by Bohr. Based on the Chalcedonian Creed and the speech in Como of the Danish physicist, I have presented the properties of the principle of complementarity in a table. By complementing the triple methodology with complementarity, I have coined the concept of complementarity realism. Through this, I gained a tool to determine in specific cases whether a relationship of complementarity exists or not. In the fields of the dual nature in Christology, the Trinity, the Lutheran theology, the Scripture and its interpretation, the dualities of theology are well explained by complementarity. At the same time, in the relationship between theology and science, in certain common thematic areas, a relationship of complementarity can also be discerned.
