Connections to the Spiritual Dimensions of Spiritual Care Conversation

Abstract

For pastoral counselors working from a theological-biblical perspective, God’s presence represents a truly lived, experienced healing dimension in which, through encounters and conversations (God–pastoral counselor, God–counselee, counselor–counselee) dysfunctional structures are transformed and long-standing and increasingly hardened blockages are dissolved. By returning again and again to the source of life, life springs forth in an „environment of love” that conveys deep acceptance, community, intimacy (closeness), a desire for life, balance, and healing for both the client and the helper. This situation is true worship in the presence of various liturgical, homiletic, poimenic, and euchetic aspects and elements, in the love of God. 

Our study delves into two pastoral topics that are likely to arise in pastoral conversations. The section dealing with support for mourners goes into more detail on the relevant aspects, while the topic of discussion at the christening leaves room for further reflection on the pastoral care process. The focus is on the spiritual context of the relationship with God. Together with our readers, we seek opportunities for sensitive, understanding presence and attention.
