Criteria for the Assessment of Battery and Hydrogen Propulsion in Intercity Passenger Rail Transport in Hungary
Abstract
The climate targets stated and set nationally and internationally require the reduction of emissions from transport vehicles and, in the long term, the achievement of total carbon neutrality. This can be achieved primarily through the introduction of alternative propulsion vehicles (pure electric or hydrogen), including the non-overhead lines areas of rail transport. For this reason, in addition to road transport, it is also essential in the case of interurban rail transport to analyse the service infrastructure, to define the necessary modifications and to define the target areas of application before the trainsets are placed in service.
