A reversible case of pulmonary hypertension in a patient treated with the tyrosine kinase inhibitor bosutinib for chronic myeloid leukemia

Keywords: tyrosine kinase inhibitor, bosutinib, pulmonary hypertension

Abstract

BCR/ABL1-specific tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which are widely used in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia, are known to have numerous cardiovascular side effects. These include precapillary pulmonary hypertension. Such adverse effects may be potentially reversible with dose reduction, discontinuation of therapy, or switching to another tyrosine kinase inhibitor; therefore, early identification of side effects is particularly important. Beyond this recognition, the value of our case lies in the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension confirmed by Swan–Ganz catheterization, the rapid clinical improvement following discontinuation of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor, and the normalization of pulmonary pressures.
