Abstract

Miklós Kőszeghy, professor at the Department of Ancient History of Pázmány Péter Catholic University and the Department of Old Testament Theology of the Evangelical Theological University, has published a comprehensive work entitled Jerusalem, The History of a City in Hiding. The book traces the history of the city from its roughly determinable foundation to 70 AD, the Temple of Herod and the destruction of the city (not the first and not the last). Although this is also a very significant time span (approximately one thousand five hundred to six hundred years), the author does not stop there, and at the end of the book he briefly looks back at the British protectorate of Palestine, touching on the Crusades and the Ottoman period.
