About the Journal
Our Aim and Mission
The Börtönügyi Szemle (Prison Review) is the quarterly scientific journal of the prison administration. The journal aims to publish scientific papers related to law enforcement and, specifically, penitentiary matters, as well as to provide readers with reliable information on newly introduced legal institutions, their impacts, results, and events affecting the organization.
Manuscripts We Welcome
The editorial board of the journal welcomes manuscripts of high scientific standards that aim to analyze the legal regulation of corrections, the characteristics of detention and the inmate population, as well as the conditions of secure detention from the perspectives of academic disciplines recognized by the scientific community – including, but not limited to, criminology, sociology, psychology, management theory, pedagogy, technical sciences, professional history, security, and law enforcement sciences. The studies published in the publication do not reflect the stance of the Editorial Board; the responsibility for their content rests entirely with the authors in all cases.
Submission and Peer Review Process
Authors are requested to indicate their name, position, affiliation, and contact details (phone number, email address) in the manuscript, as well as their academic degree and rank, if relevant. Submitted papers are forwarded anonymously by the editorial board to the members of the review committee for professional peer review. The precondition for publication is a supportive expert opinion from the reviewers, and – if reviewers suggest modifications or additions – the revision carried out by the authors and the appropriate correction of the proposed text parts.
Editorial Rights and Conditions
The editorial board reserves the right – in consultation with the authors – to make stylistic, formal, and, if necessary, substantive modifications to the manuscripts. If the manuscript does not comply with the formatting and citation guidelines available on the website, or if its content does not align with the spirit and thematic profile of the journal, the editorial board may refuse its publication.
