A numinózus hermeneutikája – a lovecrafti szövegvilág vallásfenomenológiai nézőpontból

Abstract

The thesis examines H. P. Lovecraft’s literary works starting from the mythopoetic form. It tries to explore the possibility of interpretation with the tools of philosophy and religious studies, involving postmodern and phenomenological viewpoints. It aims to highlight a sacred experience in Lovecraft’s work that remains viable beyond the critical reflections of anti-logocentric tradition. In addition to including Derridan issues, has been analyzed in detail the meaning-making power of the mythicizing form and the immanent irony that pervades the texts. The purpose of hermeneutic interpretation is not to present a total theory, but rather to outline possibilities and directions. The theoretical foundations are provided by the religious phenomenological models of Rudolf Otto and Mircea Eliade, and based on the work of Paul Tillich and Cleanth Brooks, which examined the relationship between text elements, text, and meaning. It outlines the sacred experience through the relationship between Heidegger’s ontotheological question and Lovecraft. In conclusion, a sacred experience emerges in Lovecraft’s texts, which goes beyond the onto-theological and metaphysical tradition, yet integrates the cultic and mythical dimensions of the sacred.
