Basic planning elements of the new Austrian and Swiss railway development strategies
Abstract
The Swiss and Austrian railway services set an example to follow in terms of their quality and operational background for the other European countries. The strategic planning and implementation practices of the specific countries regarding railway developments greatly contribute to the establishment of the outstanding service quality. Railway transport in Austria and Switzerland is also struggling with the increasing popularity and performance of road transport. The aim of their recently completed strategies, as a main component of climate protection measures, is to reduce the market share of road transport by significantly increasing the quality of railway services. The basic elements of the strategies that establish the competitive advantage of railways in the market are summarized in this professional article.
