Abstract

Altough there is a very extensive regional and long distance bus network in Hungary, sufficient temporal coverage and service frequency is provided usually only on the busiest routes.
In the past years, services continously evolved in a very positive direction, however, regional systems can only be further developed cost effectively if we give up prioritizing direct services and switch to a periodic timetable optimized for transfers at network nodes. In this article, we present a periodic timetable system for the Nógrád region of Hungary which provides
flexible public transportation service between any villages, all day long, by harmonizing both rail a bus timetables.
