The road safety effects of autonomous vehicles
Abstract
One of the biggest breakthroughs in 21stcentury transport is the appearance and expected proliferation of autonomous vehicles. Increases in their incidence will result in a number of changes, including changes in pollutant emissions, changes in parking requirements, and a likely reduction in the number of accidents. With the proliferation of autonomous vehicles, the number of accidents caused by the human factor may change. As these vehicles become more widespread, it is essential that we investigate the risk of accidents that have already occurred and the risk of accidents generated by autonomous vehicles, including the accident risks of strictly compliant behaviour.
