The ten commandments of vaccination as regards preventive adult immunization
Abstract
Immunization, as an important tool of specific prevention has been considered for decades by the lay public and the health care specialists not involved in childcare as an important intervention only for otherwise healthy individuals. The new approach has been gradually accepted during the recent decade: it is not fair to deprive the chronically ill, the immunocompromised people regardless of its origin, the BMT and organ transplant patients, the ones needed treatment with a new biological and the elderly of the health advantages related to immunization. Access to immunization according to the actual health status and life stage in these groups depends on the continuously updated knowledge of primary care physicians, which should be promoted by new educational tools, such as the recently published "10 commandments of adult vaccination" by Medscape Infectious Diseases. The author interprets each topic of the educational material adding her own experiences, asa vaccination consultant.
