Taxonomic notes on the genus Noteolethaeus with three new species from Madagascar (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Rhyparochromidae)
Abstract
Three new species of Noteolethaeus Woodward & Slater, 1962 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Rhyparochromidae: Rhyparochrominae: Lethaeini) are described: N. pallens Zámbó & Kondorosy, sp. nov., N. vasarhelyii Zámbó & Kondorosy, sp. nov. and N. banari Zámbó & Kondorosy, sp. nov. The new species are in transitional position between Noteolethaeus Woodward & Slater, 1962 and Sweetolethaeus Slater, 1972, rendering the genus-level differentiation of the above two genera impossible. However, because the type species of the two genera are rather dissimilar, Sweetolethaeus is retained as subgenus of Noteolethaeus (stat. nov.). The following new combinations are accordingly proposed: N. (S.) macchiaensis (Slater, 1972), comb. nov. and N. (S.) termiticolus (Slater, 1972), comb. nov. N. leeui Woodward & Slater, 1962 is recorded for the first time from Tanzania. A key to the identification of the species of Noteolethaeus is provided.
