About the Journal
Summary
Acta Zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae publishes original works in the fields of animal taxonomy and systematics, zoogeography, animal ecology and behaviour, population biology, biodiversity studies and nature conservation problems of international interest. Short communications, checklists, catalogues or new species records for a given region are not in the focus of the scope of the journal. Manuscript turnaround times in this journal are rapid (the average time from submission to publishing is 8.4 months based on the last two years' data). Acta Zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae is published quarterly in four issues in February, May, August, and November.
Acta Zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae is published by the Hungarian Natural History Museum and the Biological Section of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences with the financial support of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Editorial Policy
Acta Zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae is a single-blind peer-reviewed journal. Two (or three) experts in the field are asked to provide their evaluations within four weeks. Based on the reviewers’ recommendations, the editors make a decision and list the necessary amendments.
Manuscripts must be solely the work of the author(s) stated, must not have been previously published elsewhere, and must not be under consideration by another journal. This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. The authors retain copyright and publishing rights without restrictions on papers published in Acta Zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae.
Plagiarism and ethics policy
All articles must be original. Authors submitting a manuscript have to declare in the cover letter that the submitted manuscript is an original work, none of the material in the paper has been published or is under consideration for publication elsewhere, and no piece of the manuscript is plagiarised from other published material, including his/her own work (see Instructions to authors). The manuscript will be checked with plagiarism detection software by the Editor-in-Chief when the editors or the reviewers suspect plagiarism. Plagiarism is defined as more than 5% of the sentences in the manuscript being taken from other published material. If plagiarism is detected, authors may be banned from submissions for a specified time period.
We follow the COPE (Committee on Publications Ethics) recommendations during the whole publication process. The corresponding author should declare in the cover letter that all appropriate ethics and other approvals were obtained for the research.
A manuscript submitted by an editor is handled by another editor during the full reviewing process. A decision about acceptance will also be made by the other editor. Similarly, if the author and editor have the same affiliation, an editor with different affiliations will select reviewers and make a decision on the manuscript. Reviewers are requested to declare that there is no conflict of interest with any of the authors.
