Exploration of behaviour characteristics in the truck traffic, based on position data
Abstract
A new anonymised procedure has been developed, using the fixed series of positions recorded during the satellite tracking of lorries to determine:
- the typical foreign travel destinations of the vehicles,
- typical rest areas for vehicles,
- places where vehicles are forced to wait longer than required by the transport operation (e.g. border crossings),
- the typical length of rest and waiting time and its distribution in each place.
A significant sample of cross-border truck movements affecting Hungary was included in the study. A significant novelty of the method is that it is possible to determine the typical foreign destinations
of trucks crossing the Hungarian border.
