Résumé

The other inner areas are special elements of the Hungarian settlement structure. Other inner area is an inner area not interconnected geographically with the central inner area of the administrative unit. Not all localities include an other inner area, but there are localities with more other inner areas. They are partly former villages which are now parts of other settlements (incorporated villages) or former outskirts with a small cluster of houses. They are between the central inner areas and the outskirts of settlements both architectural character both functions and population size. There are nineteen such settlements in the Sopron district, most are in the administrative area of the town of Sopron. These settlements are very different by size, functions, development trends, original function, and transport facilities. The most important transformation factors of the other inner areas of Sopron district are suburbanization (near the town of Sopron), tourism (near Lake Fertő) and cross-border relations (shopping tourism, medical tourism, residential functions of those persons who work in Austria). The former hobby gardens, wine-hills and new suburban estates near Sopron are rather dynamic, but the former mining colonies and manors further from Sopron are declining.
