About the Journal

De iurisprudentia et iure publico – Journal of Legal and Political Sciences (DIEIP) is an online, open-access scholarly periodical published quarterly since 2007. It publishes contributions in Hungarian, English, and German in the fields of legal scholarship and political science, including articles, book reviews, and conference reports. The journal is open both to early-career researchers and to practitioners.

From 2007 to 2012, the journal was edited and hosted by the Department of Political Science of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Szeged. From early 2012, while maintaining the same editorial structure, it has been published by the Hungarian Society of Legal and Political Sciences. Since 2019, the journal has been edited and hosted by the Department of Legal Theory of the Faculty of Law of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary.

The journal accepts only manuscripts that are based on scientifically sound, original research findings and have not been previously published. All articles submitted for publication in the journal undergo a double-blind peer review process.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts submitted to De iurisprudentia et iure publico are first subject to a preliminary editorial assessment in order to determine whether they comply with the journal’s basic requirements, author guidelines and academic profile.

Manuscripts that meet the formal and substantive standards of the journal proceed to peer review. The journal applies a double-blind peer review process, in which each manuscript is evaluated by at least two experts in the relevant field. Reviewers are selected on the basis of their academic expertise, research profile and previous reviewing experience.

Reviewers assess manuscripts according to standardised evaluation criteria, with particular regard to originality, academic rigour, clarity of argument, engagement with the relevant literature, and the contribution of the manuscript to legal scholarship, jurisprudence, public law or related fields of research.

The final decision on acceptance, revision or rejection is made by the Editorial Board, taking into account the reviewers’ comments and recommendations.

The peer review process may result in one of the following decisions:

  • accepted without revision
  • accepted with minor revisions
  • accepted with major revisions
  • rejected

Publication Ethics

De iurisprudentia et iure publico is committed to upholding high ethical standards in scholarly publishing. The principles of academic integrity, fairness, objectivity and professional responsibility apply to authors, editors and reviewers alike.

In the assessment and publication of manuscripts, the journal takes into account internationally recognised standards of publication ethics, in particular the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics. The Editorial Board reserves the right to screen submitted manuscripts by means of plagiarism-detection software. If plagiarism, duplicate publication, unauthorised textual borrowing or any other serious breach of publication ethics is detected, the Editorial Board may reject the manuscript or, in the case of an already published article, initiate correction, retraction or any other appropriate measure.

Responsibilities of the Editorial Board

The Editorial Board is responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts may be published in the journal. Such decisions are based on the scholarly quality, originality and academic merit of the manuscript, as well as on the opinions and recommendations of the reviewers.

Manuscripts are evaluated solely on the basis of their intellectual and scholarly content. The author’s gender, origin, worldview, religious belief, citizenship, political opinion or any other circumstance unrelated to the academic value of the manuscript shall not influence the editorial decision.

The Editorial Board shall treat all information concerning submitted manuscripts as confidential. Information about a manuscript may be disclosed only to the author, reviewers, potential reviewers, relevant members of the Editorial Board and, where necessary, the publisher.

Editors shall not use unpublished information, ideas or research results obtained through the review process for their own advantage. In the event of a conflict of interest, the editor concerned shall not participate in the decision-making process relating to the manuscript.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to provide independent, objective and professionally well-founded opinions on the manuscripts assigned to them. The purpose of peer review is not only to assess suitability for publication, but also to contribute to the improvement of the scholarly quality of the manuscript.

Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential documents. Information, arguments, data and conclusions contained in a manuscript may not be used before publication and may not be disclosed to third parties.

Reviewers shall assess manuscripts exclusively on scholarly and professional grounds. Their opinions should be clear, reasoned and, where possible, constructive. Personal, offensive or otherwise inappropriate comments fall outside the proper scope of academic review.

If a reviewer considers that he or she lacks the necessary expertise to evaluate the manuscript, or cannot complete the review within a reasonable time, the reviewer must inform the Editorial Board without delay. The same applies if the reviewer identifies a conflict of interest.

Reviewers must notify the Editorial Board if they detect any indication of plagiarism, duplicate publication, improper use of sources, serious inaccuracies or other concerns relating to publication ethics.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are required to submit manuscripts that constitute their own original scholarly work. Manuscripts must not contain plagiarism, unauthorised textual borrowing, fabricated data, misleading statements or knowingly inaccurate references.

Authors must identify all sources used in a precise and verifiable manner. The ideas, findings, text or data of others may only be used with proper citation.

Authors may not submit a manuscript that has already been published in substantially the same form or that is under consideration by another journal at the same time. Duplicate or concurrent submission constitutes a breach of publication ethics.

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, execution, interpretation or drafting of the research. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all eligible co-authors are listed, that no inappropriate co-authors are included, and that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript.

Authors must disclose any financial, professional or other conflict of interest that may affect the interpretation of the results or conclusions of the manuscript. All sources of research funding must also be indicated.

If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in an already published article, the author must promptly notify the Editorial Board and cooperate in issuing a correction, clarification or retraction, where appropriate.
