Abstract

The aim of our research on the senior detainees was to describe the processes characterizing the Hungarian prison population and make comparisons to the major international trends. As a first step we examined the common international problems associated with the detention of senior prisoners, and we review the domestic situation afterwards. The data used for the analysis comes from two sources. On the one hand we used all the data available from the Basic Computer Register System of the Prisoners regarding all the detentions between 1995 and 2015. On the other hand, we used the questionnaires of the “Predictive Assessing Tool” recorded and processed in 2015 within the framework of the “Risk Assessment and Management System” developed for the classification of prisoners.
