The impact of reed cutting on the ground-dwelling spider community (Araneae) along the shore reeds of the Lake Velencei
Abstract
We investigated the short-term impact of reed cutting on the ground-dwelling spider community along the shore reeds of the Lake Velencei (Agárd). The collections yielded altogether 81 spider species including two ones new to the Hungarian spider fauna, namely Entelecara omissd (O.P.- Cambridge, 1902) and Araeoncus crassipes (Westring, 1861) as well as several rare species. The early summer aspects of the faunas of the cut and uncut areas are distinctly different both in terms of the composition of the ground-dwelling spider community and in terms of abundance. The Shannon diversity index of the reed fauna of the cut areas in early summer (from the end of April till early of June) is significantly less, whereas the relative abundance of species typical of secondary or degraded habitats is higher compared to the uncut areas.
