About the Journal

Aims and Scope

'Természetvédelmi Közlemények' is the journal of the Nature Conservation and Ecology Section of the Hungarian Biological Society. The journal publishes peer-reviewed original articles, mainly on topics related to nature conservation in the Carpathian Basin.
We publish open access articles in Hungarian, with English language abstracts. We publish one volume per year. Articles are published immediately after acceptance and technical editing.
We want ‘Természetvédelmi Közlemények’ to be an essential resource for all conservation planning and work, and we would like everyone interested and concerned with nature conservation, including land managers, decision makers, researchers, educators and students, to consider the journal as their own.

Accordingly, from 2021, our profile has been divided into four sections:

Scientific Research
Articles published in this section
- present scientifically rigorous research with applications to nature conservation,
- provide a scientific review of a topic of interest,
- describe and evaluate the species or communities of a particular area, or the distribution of species or communities from a conservational perspective,
- discuss the methodology and analysis of status surveys or monitoring.

Social Sciences in Conservation
In 2016, an interdisciplinary section was added to the journal, on the application of the methodology of social sciences in nature conservation. For this section, we invite manuscripts in which
- social science methods have also been applied in research concerning the conservation of habitats, natural values, ecosystem services, including the exploration of traditional knowledge,
- the authors summarise some socio-economic aspects of conservation, with a review of relevant international and national literature,
- present and evaluate international and national developments in the dialogue between science and conservation policy.

Lessons in Conservation Practice
We consider it our mission to make the highly valuable field experience of practical conservationists available to the public, since this knowledge contributes to the enrichment of national conservation knowledge by complementing research planned by professional scientists. As these articles differ from the presentation of research planned for scientific purposes, a separate section was created for them in 2021.
The section is open to papers that
- present the results of field-based conservation interventions (changes in habitats, animal or plant populations or communities) in the form of case studies,
- describe the problems and demands of conservation practice,
- reflect the views of non-scientists on conservation issues.

Reviews of Books and Digital Materials
In line with the theme of the journal, you are welcome to submit
- reviews of Hungarian or foreign language books,
-presentations of websites and applications (e.g. databases, electronic field guides, smartphone applications) that can be used in nature conservation.

Volumes 1-14 of the journal (1991-2008) were published in print, scanned volumes from these are available in the Archive. From 2009, the journal ‘Természetvédelmi Közlemények’ has only been published online. Since 2016, our journal has CrossRef DOI identifier. The articles are indexed by the Hungarian Science Repository (Magyar Tudományos Művek Tára, MTMT) and archived by the MTA REAL repository. Full volumes are archived in the MTA REAL-J repository. The articles are also available on the website of the Publisher (Hungarian Biological Society).

The publication of the journal is supported by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
