Abstract

This series of articles is about property management in railway areas from the change of regime to the present day. In a market economy, real estate has regained its traditional importance in the economy, its importance in the use of railway areas has also increased. Building on this, the article explores the evolving role and objectives of railway property management, from the beginning to the development of complex railway and property development plans. Through concrete examples, it describes issues relating to the use of railway land and the lessons that can be learned from them. Railway stations, passenger stations, and freight transport areas, marshalling yards, which have slightly different characteristics, are discussed in a separate group, along with their utilization plans and results and failures of them. At the end of the article series, the general conclusions and suggestions drawn from the practice so far are summarised based on concrete examples. At the end of the series of articles, general conclusions and recommendations based on specific examples will be summarized,  which are particularly relevant considering the recently publicized brownfield development program in the Rákosrendező area. Part 2 covers the presentation of Déli, Keleti and Józsefváros railway stations.
