The beginnings of irrigation education

The role of Miklós Kállay in the development of the Hungarian agricultural education

Keywords: National Irrigation Office, irrigation farming, irrigation education

Abstract

The historical research related to Miklós Kállay is – mainly and primarily – related to his activities as prime minister between 1942 and 1944. Although specialized works have recently been published about his previous work as Minister of Agriculture and as president of the National Irrigation Office, the ideas of the National Irrigation Office he led regarding irrigation education are also interesting for posterity. Our goal is to reconstruct the reasons for which the subject of Irrigation Farming was planned to be introduced between 1937 and 1942, in which agricultural education institutions, and in which institutions the teaching of the subject actually began at the initiative of the National Irrigation Office.
