In the shadow of the water tower
Study about the penitentiary institutions of Tököl
Abstract
Dealing with youngsters, teaching the modern adolescents and leading the upcoming generation to the right way all mean serious social responsibility. This sort of responsibility increases exponentially when it has to be carried out within the restrains of the prison walls. The history of the penitentiary institution(s) of Tököl provides a great example of the evolution of work and education carried out with juvenile inmates. The primary purpose of the study – after the historical overview - is to introduce the institutions of Tököl and the current organizational structure, as well as to provide an overview of the reintegration works and efforts made in the shadow of the water tower situated inside the prison. This paper will provide a glimpse of the different kind of tools and techniques that are currently in place, that in addition to keeping up discipline and order serve not only the purpose of general prevention, but also trigger individual development, therefore increasing the chance of successful reintegration of the inmates upon their release.
