Presentation of the rehabilitation programmes of the Veszprém County Prison in preparation for release

Abstract

The purpose of imprisonment is to protect society and prevent the commission of a new crime, but less is heard about compensating for the negative effects of crime. The possibility for this can be achieved within the framework of reintegration, albeit in a limited form, yet within prison settings, through reparation programmes. In the Veszprém County Prison prisoners wrote tales, which they donated to charity in the form of a book with their own drawings, and took part in drug prevention programmes by the help of story telling therapy and drama education. The family decision-making group helped them to settle their own relationships with their immediate family, which could help their reintegration after release. Making amends and abiding to social norms also require the acquisition of appropriate, marketable qualifications, which is possible within the walls of the prison.
