Abstract

It is a legitimate and reasonable expectation from the society, that the different tasks and services carried out by the Prison Service should be evaluated. In our study we take a look at the Prison Performance Ratings (PRS) managed by the National Offenders Management Service (NOMS) in England and Wales, in comparison with the Hungarian system, introduced under the name “Organizational Performance Evaluation”. We describe the similarities and differences between the two assessing systems. We review the different contents regarding the professional work, key indicators, methodological issues and procedural framework. From our study we conclude, that in case of both organizations the answers given to the expectations received from the society and professional management point to a similar direction, a similar mannered response.
