Abstract

Prison is a human product that functions on the periphery of society. The knowledge of law-abiding citizens about the prisons is incomplete and inaccurate because of their marginalized status. By presenting the results of a survey conducted by questionnaire method, the study attempts to show how the social image of prisons is shaped by various forms of information, including organized visits to prisons. It is also important to emphasize the conclusion of the study, namely that the more objective public image of the prisons is closely related to the social openness and in a broader sense to social supervision of the prisons.
