Abstract

The devoted work of the probation officers of the Hungarian Prison Service in order to prevent recidivism has been already described several times. The present study, however, is special, as it has a more personal tone: through interviews and personal case studies it brings the important work of the professionals closer, and also provides insight to the dynamical specialties and the processes of the group sessions that prepare the inmates for the release. The aim of the study is to present the work of the officers through the points of view of the inmates by explaining their life stories, their feelings and their thoughts. Some of the cases provide important and valuable conclusions for all those in the field of social work.
