The present and the past of the Vác Strict and Medium Regime Prison

Abstract

The aim of the study is to allow the reader to gain insights into the past and present of the second oldest prison in Hungary. Historical periods of the past 163 years have often challenged the institute on the bank of the river Danube. The study also presents the difficulties caused by the geographical location of the institute, namely the Danube flood waves recurring in every four to five years. We are also describing the present of the Vác Strict and Medium Regime Prison, focusing on the operation of its special departments and innovative initiatives facilitating reintegration – these achievements are our special features and have international recognition.
