The 113 year-old Sátoraljaújhely Strict and Medium Regime Prison as a professional workshop

Abstract

When we hear ‘Sátoraljaújhely Strict and Medium Regime Prison’ we might think of the harsh and segregated world of prisons and the violent prisoners. Some connotations of the prison go unseen and are very important to the Hungarian Prison Service. In the professional field Sátoraljaújhely is known and recognized not only as a prison but as a ‘professional workshop’. In addition to the detention of inmates the institute concentrates on activities and research that is beneficial to the Hungarian Prison Service. The reintegration activities in the institute are formed around the four pillar of work, studies, religion and keeping up the family relationships of the inmates. We give a summary of our professional results and innovations in this publication.
