Preventing recidivism in penitentiary institutions
Presenting the educational and treatment practices in the Szombathely National Prison
Abstract
During the modernization of the prison service, methods that have not been used yet have been incorporated into the reintegration process, which facilitate a more detailed mapping of the prisoner’s personality and a more personalized treatment of prisoners. It has now become clear that during the time of imprisonment differentiated and individualized treatment of prisoners is a fundamental condition for a successful social and labor market reintegration. Besides the appropriate use of available means, during the period of imprisonment it is necessary to achieve that the prisoner would contribute voluntarily to the implementation of prison objectives, thereby minimizing the risk of recidivism after release. In the following study, we present the practices of the Szombathely National Prison to provide a comprehensive picture of new and classic reintegration methods.
