Tasks, responsibilities and solutions of a prison governor
Abstract
During the fight against the coronavirus epidemic, prisons had to face several, previously never experienced problems. We tried to prevent COVID-19 disease and reduce the spread of the acquired infection by adapting the measures introduced in civilian life to closed institutional conditions and by introducing some special rules applied only in prisons. To solve the problems encountered, it was necessary to completely transform the procedures governing internal life, adapted by the governors of the prisons to local specificities in accordance with the central guidelines. Along with the unified central task setting, particular practices specific to each prison have been developed. By describing some local practices, I will try to present the prevention activities of the Szombathely National Prison, regarding the staff, the detainees and the prison facilities and other areas.
