Abstract

The emergence of the coronavirus epidemic in 2020, followed by its rapid spread, significantly changed and expanded the tasks of the disaster management authority. As a result of the epidemic, the Hungarian Disaster Management had to face completely new challenges, while also having to carry out its basic purpose in order to guarantee the safety of life and property of the population. This study would like to highlight the tasks little known by the public conducted by the disaster management authority in relation to the spread of the coronavirus epidemicwithin the framework of the international, and the civil protection mechanism. At the same time I would also like to draw attention to the connecting points to the operations of the European civil protection and to the humanitarian assistance actions. The study also outlines the tasks of the professional disaster management carried out in order to prevent the spread of the epidemic, the measures taken during the epidemic, the participation of the disaster management in the operational teams set up for battling/overcoming the coronavirus epidemic, and specifically points out the activities performed to protect the personnel.
