New directions in the communication strategies of the Hungarian Prison Service

Abstract

Modern media is an integral part of our life and we form our opinions about the world surrounding us with the help of it, media has a considerable influence on the contents, focus, and timing of our thoughts. Public opinion about an organization largely depends on how the media informs the public (and on whether it informs it at all) about its functioning, successes, and failures as well as on how the organization itself communicates about these. Communicational activities guided by a well thought-through strategy can do a lot for validity of media representation. Recognizing this, the communicational approach of the Hungarian Prison Service has recently taken new directions, including via placing more weight on proactivity and use of new communicational technologies. The current monograph is aimed at illustrating this work.
