Licensing and construction of Kiskunhalas National Prison Institute – Accomplishment the latest state-of-the-art prison of Hungary

Abstract

Prison capacity expansion required a new approach and solutions to improve the infrastructure of the Hungarian Prison Service. Setting up the Kiskunhalas National Prison was a milestone of the prison-building project. The planning, the implementation and the multiple re-planning was challenging for the professionals during the brownfield development which had been constructed from 26 September 2018 to 31 January 2019. The project became a symbol of efficient collaborative prison service work. The construction took 122 days, 253 prisoners worked over 77 000 working hours. This means that the Hungarian Prison Service has the capacity to create value in record time by effectively involving inmates.
