Anchoring masts of self-propelled drilling-, well completion- and workover rigs
Abstract
In the last decade, the anchored drilling masts of two self-propelled rigs have fallen over, causing great damage to the drilling contractor, but fortunately no personal injuries occurred. During the investigation of operational accidents, the question arose as to whether the Hungarian practice of anchoring drilling rigs is appropriate. Since the findings of the investigations, the reasons for the decision, the extent of the damage caused, and any potential liability are considered trade secrets,
they cannot be disclosed to the general public. However, it is worth reviewing good anchoring practices based on current standards, regulations and available literature sources. This study attempts to accomplish this task.
