Abstract

If we think about the future of BKL (journal Bányászati és Kohászati Lapok ), our situation is easy, since we only have to open the first issue of the first year of Mining and Metallurgical Papers and read Antal Péch’s welcome letter. The writing was dated 156 years ago, which also means that the medium we call BKL for short, is now in its 156th year. Few Hungarian newspapers can take pride in this, and even fewer of them contribute as a fundamental document to the cohesion of a professional community, that is the professional community of miners and metallurgists. The intellectual, but also, one might say, professional and emotional capital which our ancestors accumulated over centuries, and which facilitated to experience the feeling of being down and up – as there were both dark and bright days for all three professional sectors –, it is our duty to preserve the accumulated value, bring it to life in our own way and pass it on.
When the presidency of the OMBKE (Hungarian National Mining and Metallurgical Association) decided to reunite the media presenting the work of the scientific actors of the three professions – mining – metallurgy – gas and oil mining – in the BKL, containing the scientific publications of the three professions, it returned to the world nominated by Antal Péch.
It is the duty of BKL to give space to research communities, to showcase their performance, and strengthen the recognition of the respective scientific workshop with its special tools, even on an international level. And here the focus is on the word workshop.
The management of OMBKE has set the goal of obtaining the possibility of communicating and assigning the so-called DOI number from the competent bodies and authorities. The main goal of the editor-in-chief of BKL and the members of the editorial board is to rejuvenate the group of authors. This is the intention when the editors invite young researchers to approach each topic and to present the partial results achieved there. Moreover, students without an academic degree yet but who proved their talent coming to the first and second place, together with their supervisor, of course in the national Science Student Circle contests are presented in BKL, so that we can see and read about the background of their success and learn about their achievements. Following in the footsteps of Antal Péch, the journal does not aim at serving a narrow readership. On the contrary, it wants to keep up with the latest results of science. BKL relies heavily on the actors working in scientific institutions in the mining and metallurgical professions, the high-quality actors of corporates, one might say, the industrial segment, but also on the representatives of related sciences.
