Abstract

Erythema elevatum diutinum is a rare form of cutaneous vasculitis, which can be associated with autoimmune, infective and hematological diseases. The disease usually appears bilaterally, with symmetrical livid-reddish or redbrownish papules and plaques on the extensor surfaces, in the late, chronic, stage nodules also develop. The authors present the case of a young man, who previously has been treated for Crohn's disease, in whom erythema elevatum diutinum was confirmed during the histological examination of his skin symptoms with an unusually extensive and varied clinical appearance. Although dapsone can be used as a first-line therapeutic modality for its treatment, its nodular form remains a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.
