The first 100 years of the carotenoid chemistry research group in Pécs 1923-2023

Abstract

In October 2023, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Institute of Biochemistry and Medical Chemistry of the University of Pécs and the Research Group for Carotenoids within it. In October 1922 László Zechmeister was appointed full professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Erzsébet University which had moved from Bratislava to Pécs. Teaching and research at the university began in the autumn of 1923, and this is also the date when the Institute of Chemistry and the Research Group for Carotenoids were established.
