The Removal of the Professional Personnel of the Former Honvéd Border Guard (of the Hungarian Army) from the Organisation of the Hungarian State Security Authority (Államvédelmi Hatóság, ÁVH) Border Guard

Abstract

On 1st January 1950, the Border Guard of the Hungarian Army was removed from the Hungarian Defence Forces and was integrated into the State Security Authority Border Guard. Based on archival research, the author presents that a significant part of the professional personnel, especially those working in the headquarters, was removed shortly after the reorganisation. The paper discusses the details of the dismissals, the methods of replacing the personnel and the social composition of the old and the new personnel.
