The Western World and the Iranian Nuclear Deal (JCPOA) – The EU’s Position and Its Role in Creating the JCPOA Agreement
Abstract
his article presents the history and current status of the Iranian nuclear program and the role of the Western world in the establishment of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). It summarizes the path to the JCPOA and discusses its unsustainability following the United States’ unilateral withdrawal from the agreement. It discusses the efforts of the EU and its member states and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to preserve the agreement. The article’s conclusion is that Tehran is unlikely aiming to produce a nuclear weapon currently, to which the Persian country’s capabilities were also diminished following the American and Israeli attacks in June 2025
