Abstract

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) aims to strengthen China’s glob-al economic influence. The Beijing government carries out further de-velopments in Africa joining the designated trade routes, particularly in the Sub-Saharan region. I briefly outline the significance of the BRI, and other modern economic and political strategies arising from it in Central Africa.  My aim is to provide a comprehensive overview of China’s strengthening presence in the region and the strategies through which it may gain advantages over its geopolitical rivals. I present how China seeks to increase its influence in Central Africa through tools of soft power – such as strengthening diplomatic relations, cultural exchange programmes, and infrastructural investments. In the detailed, example-based presentation of China’s attempt to increase its influence, I focus on five African countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. China is car-rying out significant projects in these countries that may bring econom-ic development
